Story events are much more focused on your stamina rather than your attack stamina. You need to go to "Area" to continue progressing with a certain girl to have opportunities to encourage her to do her best by giving her gifts when the time is right! The more stamina you have, the more chances you will have to be able to gift materials during that time.

As for gaining points, it is based on the girls that had a connection/relationship to a particular girl.
